Adult protective services help vulnerable adults age 60 and older who are in danger of harm, are unable to protect themselves, and may have no one to assist them. DSAS is the mandated provider of adult protective services in Cuyahoga County. The intent of the adult protective services is to protect and assist adults 60+ who may be victims of abuse, neglect, self-neglect and/or financial exploitation. APS is mandated by the Ohio .
Upon completion of the investigation, the County Departments of Job and Family Services determine whether or not the adult, who is the subject of the investigation, is in need of protective services. Social, medical, and mental health care professionals are mandated by law to immediately report suspected abuse, neglect (including self-neglect.
